Application Areas Of Graphite

As we all know, microstructure determines macroscopic performance. Because graphite has many excellent properties such as: high temperature resistance, thermal shock resistance, chemical stability, moldability, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, lubricity, etc., graphite is important in our country One of the strategic reserve resources is widely used in chemical, aerospace, national defense, electrical, metallurgy, textile and other fields, known as "black gold" in non-metallic materials.

(1) Metallurgical industry: General refractory materials use graphite as the raw material, and graphite materials such as graphite crucibles, high-temperature-resistant graphite bricks, carburizing agents, coating agents, anti-corrosion coatings, mold coatings, etc. can be prepared.

(2) Mechanical industry: Due to the lubricating properties of graphite, graphite is often used as a filler in bearing lubricants, and is mainly used to prepare graphite seal rings and graphite gears in other mechanical applications.

(3) Electrical industry: Graphite is often used to produce negative materials for new energy batteries such as lithium batteries or solar energy, welding carbon, carbon tubes, mercury rectifiers, etc.

(4) Chemical industry: Graphite can be prepared into chemical heat exchangers, valves, reaction tanks, pipes, compressors, corrosion-resistant materials, etc.

(5) Nuclear industry: When the purity of graphite is 99.99%, it can be used as a neutron moderator in an atomic radiation shielding shell or an atomic reactor. In the aerospace industry, because the melting point of graphite is around 3850 ° C, graphite can be used as a high-temperature throat lining for rocket engine tail nozzles, because graphite can withstand high temperatures around 3200 ° C.

(6) Other uses: Graphite can be used as raw materials for pigments, conductive inks, pencil lead, etc., and can also be used as activated carbon to adsorb toxic and harmful gases, solids, liquids and other wastes.

With the in-depth research of graphite beneficiation, chemical purification and high value-added products, many new materials using graphite as raw materials have appeared, such as: expanded graphite, graphene materials, spherical graphite, nano-graphite and so on. Among them, the performance of expanded graphite and graphene materials is better. Expanded graphite is also called flexible graphite, which has the characteristics of flexibility, adsorption, anisotropic conductivity, and impermeability. It can be used as a material in the fields of electronics and medicine; and Graphene materials, also known as star materials, mainly use flake graphite as raw materials, and the prepared graphene has a two-dimensional planar structure, has certain electrical and thermal conductivity, and mechanical strength and other excellent properties.
