Because graphite has many excellent properties, it has been widely used in industrial area, such as metallurgy, machinery, electrical, chemical, textile.
1.Used as refractory material ,because carbon and graphite products can stand high temperature and have good strength and corrosion resistance, many metallurgical furnace linings can be built with carbon blocks, such as furnace bottom, hearth and belly of ironmaking furnace, ferroalloy. Lining of furnace and calcium carbide furnace, bottom and side of aluminum electrolytic groove. Many of the graphitized bismuth used for bismuth, fused silica glass, etc. for precious metal and rare metal smelting are also processed from graphitized blank block. Carbon and graphite products used as refractory materials should generally not be used in oxidizing atmospheres. Because the carbon or graphite will quickly ablate at high temperatures in an oxidizing atmosphere.
2.As a wear-resistant and lubricating material, carbon and graphite materials have better chemical properties in addition to their high chemical stability. Under high speed, high temperature and high pressure conditions, it is often impossible to use lubricating oil to improve the wear resistance of sliding parts. Graphite wear resistant materials can work in corrosive media at temperatures from -200 to 2000 degrees Celsius and at high sliding speeds (up to 100 m/s) without the use of lubricating oil.
